Description: General Purpose The SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST is an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team who works with the surgeon, anesthesiologist or anesthetist and the registered nurse as a member of the direct patient care team during surgical intervention. The surgical technologist assists by preparing and handling supplies, instruments and equipment to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment. Core Responsibilities/Essential Functions 1. Demonstrates ability to plan for surgical procedures. 2. Demonstrates ability to "scrub" for surgical procedures. 3. Applies principles of asepsis and adheres to infection control guidelines and Universal Precautions. 4. Assembles/disassembles/operates complex surgical equipment. 5. Maintains sponge and needle counts, instrument count when required. 6. Responsible for the proper care and handling of all general and specialty instruments including the cleaning, preparation, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation. 7. Carefully handles specimens. 8. Attends appropriate department staff meetings and inservices and is responsible for maintaining current CPR certification. 9. Assists with room clean-up at the conclusion of the operative procedure and at the end of the day. 10. Assists with room re-stocking and cleaning. 11. Assists with orientation/teaching of personnel in the scrub role/instrument tech. 12. Assists in maintaining Doctor's preference cards. 13. Demonstrates knowledge of sterilization process and record keeping of such processes. 14. Reports any problems in a timely manner. ? Complexity and Scope Services provided by the ST supports the efficient and safe operation of the Outpatient Surgery Department by assisting the provider in surgical procedures. Incumbents work in a fast paced, sometimes stressful environment with a strong focus on customer service. Interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments; physicians, internal contacts and external contacts. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications · OR experience - required ? Current BLS certification ? Demonstrates verbal communication skills ? Basic Computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office applications. ? Strong Customer centric. ? Requires critical thinking, communication, decision making, analytical and strong interpersonal relationship skills. ? ASC experience preferred. ?
