JOB DESCRIPTION
Requirements:
- A minimum of a BS; a CPA and/or MBA would be a plus.
- At least five years experience as Director of Finance (or equivalent) in a US- Ased nonprofit organization funded by multiple grants, preferably one with international operations.
- Experience in a senior financial management role, partnering with executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of creative financial management strategies.
- Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting.
- Deep knowledge and understanding of compliance audits.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills.
- Strong commitment to LSM?s mission to care for our common home and advance climate and ecological justice.
- Comfort with working in a Catholic environment that is rooted in prayer and the spirituality of Laudato Si? (being Catholic is not a requirement).
Responsibilities:
Finance:
1. Coordinate the development of budgets in partnership with the Executive Director and the Administrative Executive Team, as well as the monitoring of budgets with programmatic staff.
2. Develop financial business plans and forecasts, accounting for multiple grants with differing timelines.
3. Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed.
4. Oversee cash and investment management.
5. Develop and utilize forward- Looking, predictive models and activity- Ased financial analyses to provide insight into the organization's operations and plans.
6. Engage the Internal Affairs Committee of the Board of Directors to develop short- , medium- , and long- Term financial plans and projections.
7. Represent LSM to financial partners, including auditors, bank reps, public officials, etc.
8. Remain up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations.
9. Participate in corporate policy development as relevant.
Accounting and Administration:
1. Oversee a staff accountant to ensure proper maintenance and update of all accounting systems and functions.
2. Ensure development, maintenance, and updating of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures, including the identification of new platforms as needed.
3. Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting for funders and the Board of Directors; oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements.
4. Coordinate audits and filing of tax returns as relevant.
5. Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions.
6. Manage LSM?s finance platforms including Stripe, PayPal, and credit cards.
7. Manage payroll in compliance with government regulations and policies.
