JOB DESCRIPTION
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as computer science or information technology

One year experience of software and hardware support in an academic setting supporting faculty, staff, and/or students

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

Working knowledge of Google G-Suite for education

Working knowledge of IT security standards such as NIST 800-171, NIST SP 800-171 and infrastructure implications of these standards.

Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with technical and non-technical personnel

Good oral and written communication skills

Preferences:

Working knowledge of virtual infrastructure: Virtual servers, Virtual Desktops.

Working knowledge of change management procedures.

Working knowledge of task tracking procedures.

Working knowledge of software compatibility.

Working knowledge of UMD inventory management
Responsibilities:
The coordinator will provide support for a customer base of approx. 60 full-time staff and faculty as well as interns and hourly employees. The coordinator will provide on-site facilities support for 22,000 sq ft of leased Office space and covers infrastructure functionality from individual computing infrastructure to telecom and data communications. The coordinator will also liaise with college and university IT offices and UMD Procurement for hardware and software services and contracts. The IT Coordinator will work with START-s business Office to manage START-s departmental software licensing and relationships with third-party vendors providing technology services and products to START.

The IT coordinator will assist in the day-to-day IT operations of the center. He/she will be expected to work on-site for four days a week and will report to START-s Director of Administrative Services. The IT coordinator is primarily responsible for the following:

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

70% Technical Support

Desktop support for START faculty, staff, and students, including installation and configuration of hardware and software and troubleshooting

Technical support for START events, including virtual, on-site and off-site events as required

User education and development of hardware and software SOPs

Coordinate with college and university IT offices as needed for additional technical support

15% Infrastructure Support

Work with START employees and the business Office to procure hardware and software as needed from third-party vendors

Work with college and university IT offices to ensure compliance with IT security standards

Participate in planning of IT infrastructure and implementation of new technologies, as well as support of existing technologies

15% IT Inventory Management

Track hardware, software, and network assets across the system

Work with START-s business Office to maintain university asset management functions

Manage retirement of obsolete technology and offloading of surplus resources

Work with university IT Office as needed for device destruction
